Our Philosophy:

The North Attleboro Music Department nurtures the intrinsic and global value of music through exposure, exploration and experience.

Faculty:

Mr. Rizzo- Band Director

Mr. Rizzo has been the band director at North Attleboro High School since 2006 where he oversees all aspects of the instrumental program. His ensembles have earned numerous awards including gold medals at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductor’s Association and the Concert Band Grand Champion trophy at the Fiesta-val competition in Washington, D.C. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Bridgewater State University. Mr. Rizzo is a member of numerous executive boards including the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) where he is the Public Relations Chair and Triboro Youth Theater which he serves as a Member at Large. His professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, National Band Association, and Essentially Ellington- Jazz at Lincoln Center. He has served the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) as both assistant manager and manager for the All State Concert Band and SEMMEA as both an assistant manager and manager for the Junior District Festival. Mr. Rizzo has also been the guest conductor at the New Hampshire Southwest Region Middle School Concert Band Festival.

At NAHS, he serves as the Curriculum Instructional Leader for the Art and Music Departments and is director of the Concert Band, Marching Band and Jazz Ensemble as well as the teacher of AP Music Theory, Music Theory I & II, and Hand Drumming I & II. He also directs the pit orchestra in the NAHS Theater Spring Musical and has served as a K-12 Curriculum Coordinator as well as a Curriculum Review Leader.

Mr. Couture- Choral Director

Mr. Couture has been the choral director of the Concert Choir, Select Choir & Women's Choir, as well as the teacher of the Music Technology and Piano classes since 2009. Mr. Couture grew up on a dairy and maple farm in northern Vermont. He graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec with High Distinction and Exceptional Performance in Music, earning a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education, along with a minor in physics, then earned a Masters in Music Education from Rhode Island College. He has also performed several lead roles in operas and oratorios in Vermont and Quebec, and has 7 published choral arrangements of pop songs with www.chorusonline.com, based in Amsterdam.
